how much. I see them on sale with 1080 thermal for as low as 399 (im guessing refurb)

1080 thermals are usually 4000 bucks .. im curious if this is real 1080 or just forced into 1080 with a organic 380pxl

you can buy the plug in with a USB -C connector for 199 bucks for your own phones

again, it's not 1080. that's amazing for the price point if built in. the other one I see thats cheaper has night vision with 20mpx that says it has good range. you need a IR flood lamp to get a real good shot. you can buy those and mount it on top.

is there a difference between Thermal and FLIR? (Forward Looking IR) you can see them but they can't see you looking at them becuase there is no IR light blaring. find Vanta Black blankets and hide in it.

    where you buy it at?

most are 580 or up. it's a great phone to have if you're in construction. you can see where there is water leaks and shit. but Im not sure how powerful yours is.. go find a room where you know pipes run and see if you can see the cold/hot section of pipes. video tape that. test it on that. it has to penetrate the wall to be truly functional

keep it maintained on a wall where there is temp indifference and see if you can actually see pipe through the insulation. some of these really expensive cams have the ability to penetrate deep into walls. you're is more of a toy. it's not going to penetrate that deep into the wall. some of these cameras can penetrate through concrete

it's not practical enough to find damage deep in structure but for surface it works great. the thermal works but the method they use to penetrate is not there. that's probably a very expensive piece of equipment right now since they don't sell a lot of them. if they mass produced that part of it, it could be at consumer level price point

That's not how it works. It detects the surface thermal gradient.

If you looked into a car with the front seat on fire with closed windows it would show the 'temperature' of the window.

yes, i have heard that before but thats an insufficient explanation because while i do not know exactly how it works, it must be the case that information from whatever is being viewed that contains some type of information about temperature is making it to the sensor and being used to create the image. saying it just doesnt work that way might be practically true, but technically it cant be. like imagine a hot water pipe right behind the wall and then viewing that section of the wall through the thermal imager. now run some warm water through the pipe. maybe its not that sensitive and you cant see any difference. but as you increase the temperature of that water up towards infinity AT SOME POINT the heat from that pipe and whatever is inside it is going to warm up the wall enough that if you view it through the imager you will be able to see some pipe shaped like pattern of heat on the wall itself. i think if we imagine molten lava being pushed through the pipe it would probably be easy to agree that shit is going to show up. i doubt its sensitive enough that you could just aim it at a wall and seeing in detail what someone in the next room is doing, but somewhere between those two scenarios there is a point where a reasonable level of detection exists. so saying it "doesnt work that way" is inaccurate because it does work that way, its just a matter of sensitivity of the device.

That's not how thermal imagery works. It's nothing more than regular visual imagery except at the end of the spectrum where the 'light' is now 'heat'...meaning the human eye can't see it so a computer translates the different 'temperatures' into different colors that the human eye CAN see. A pipe inside the wall is completely invisible no matter what. If that pipe is hot enough to transfer its own heat to the outside of the wall then the thermal imager would see the wall that was heated.

If you want to see through walls you need a different part of the spectrum
