   not sure if I'm gonna buy one myself. What purpose would I need with it besides seeing hidden shit around me (comes with an IR camera too) of spooky stuff

   something vaguely related to this thread...another use of IR cameras (not thermal) is having them set to passive mode and using them to find all the neighbors cameras.
   
   about ten years ago i had a neighbor that moved in and set up a bright-ass IR light for his cameras that just so happened to be in a terrible spot for one of my cameras that i had aimed somewhere.
   
   i set a multi-thousands mw spot light aimed right directly at their camera. normal ir lights for normal residential cameras are a few hundred mw at the most. needless to say in a week or so they moved their camera
