piss wrestling
apparently two guys from a Donetsk militia crept up to a trench wearing capes (maybe because they thought it was cool, maybe to try and hide from FLIR), one of them stabbed the lookout while he was distracted and the other lobbed a grenade into the trench (unknown number of men in there)
***actually no, not Donetsk militia, they're apparently a unit in the AKHMAT (Chechen-led) battalion

Look at how the 'cape' looks in comparison to everything else warm.
It's to hide them from thermal imagers
I'm surprised they published this. It used to be a closely guarded secret -
2023-12-16 at 2:45 PM UTCI thought that was probably the case; I've seen video of thermal blankets making people almost invisible to commercial flir

Thermal and infrared are two totally and completely different things
FLIR and 'regular' infrared are two different things
There are thermal camo blankets that hold heat in to hide from the imagers but they can only be worn until the wearer dies from overheating
I think the jist of that translation was that dudes cloak of invisibility snagged on his armor while they were low-crawling so they had to improvise the attack. -

There's no way you can convince me that that knife takedown was necessary and that this wasn't just a case of too much video games. -

Looks to me like the vehicle got flooded after being entrenched in that big hole.

agreed.
doctrine/training in the US military (that I know) is shoot the fuck with a suppressed pistol or rifle. that technique in the video...while obviously seeming to work...has too many things that can go wrong compared to a few suppressed rounds into the sentry. even someone in the best of health can really fuck themselves up by intentionally pulling someone down on top of themselves -

its a thermal imager. it detects gradients of thermal energy. if the energy level is different the imager will detect it.
go look at that video...the 'brighter' the color, the more thermal energy. technically not heat...but heat. note how those 'capes' (some sort of thermal imagery camouflage) are the nearly darkest 'color'...indicating theyre not sending/emitting any thermal energy for the imager to detect. -

when you say thermal BLANKET i assume its a something that covers them from the top and leaving the side of them facing the ground uncovered and uninsulated, thats my understanding of how, and what a blanket is and how it works.
so this means theyre going to be thermally and thermal energetically insulated from above while at the same time remain uninsulated from the ground.
and we know ukrainian ground is icy cold, so they might leave a heat trail or they might not depending on how fast their path managed to cool down to ambient temperature. -
