yes it matters a lot.
the entire crypto "currency" ecosystem is denominated in USD.
its not tied to gold or any other prescious metal. once the USD goes there will be panic all around searching for a new reference currency and people who thought they have safe "asssets" holding BTC or any other cryptos are going to find out the hard way. -

What people determine the value to be outside of this is irrelevant because it's universally agreed upon that 1 BTC represents some intrinsic value
the value can never be watered down or ruined by banks or government because it's sound technology designed to only exist to resist these forces. -
