a single PATRIOT complex usually contains several batteries (the units that actually fire the missiles), one radar and one command unit. they can be spread over a kilometer or so but may not be depending on the terrain and what they're meant to be defending. as I understand it two complexes (so two radars, two command units etc.) were given to the AFU.

the radar unit is usually the primary target because A) disabling the radar disables the entire complex and B) it's the easiest thing to target because when active it blasts radio waves in all directions, which are easy to triangulate. for this reason it's most likely that Russia struck the radar unit, which disables 50% of their PATRIOT defences.

lol@ 'debunked' - even western media is reporting that a PATRIOT unit was 'damaged'. they claim that the damage was minor and that it can be repaired in-theatre, but if that were true they'd have no reason not to release images of the 'lightly damaged' unit. if it ate a Kinzhal as reported, it's unlikely the damage is repairable at all.

you can see clearly in the video I posted earlier that the battery fires 30 missiles, its entire magazine, in under two minutes, and right after that is when the missile comes down uncontested (even though you can't see exactly what it hit due to the angle and the buildings).

When is Russia going to take Bakhmut?"

so what, the Wang Gang holds 95% instead of 98% of the city? they'll probably finish the operation once Zelensky stops pouring men into the artillery killbox.

lol at his latest reply aldra to another guy:

"Two launchers stood side by side, and the third - behind the building." Who ever made this statement is a mental midget. There are only two Patriot systems in Ukraine. They are never stationed next to each other. There is no "third" unit. Niether of the two units were destroyed, one was damaged. With the explosives on one unit, if it were destroyed, the secondary explosions would destroy any other unit close to it. So, anyone making the statement or citing it is a mental midget.

When is Russia going to take Bakhmut?

he may be right ldra us only admits one was damaged and there is no proof usa is lying:

sure it's possible, but it's unlikely

if you just assume the US is lying every time you'll usually be right

nd russia instó lying or inprisoning and poisoning political opponents?

Ukrainian walks slowly forward from cover and gets shot.
  8. theres no secondary explosion because all patriot missiles has been spent.

also why do ukrainians love to park their air defences between civillian buildings.

nor would there be secondary explosions if a radar or command unit were hit

same reason they park tanks and artillery in residential courtyards I guess

that strategy actually limits the effectiveness of SAMs though, buildings block radar and limit the firing angle that can be used - PATRIOTs don't do vertical launches

maybe patriot were designed for slower incoming missiles that can be detected early on from a long distance so its TEL have no need for complicated vertical launch.

    its SCUD era design.

yea like boeing 737 has been upgraded since the 90s.

its fundamantal design remains the same.

as I understand it the bulk of the upgrades have been in the radar and missiles themselves; the launch units haven't changed a lot in the last 30-40 years. I don't know about the dynamics of vertical vs. angled launch, just saying PATRIOTs have never fired vertically so putting them in an environment with obstructions like that limits their effectiveness.

PATRIOTs are designed for mid-close range engagement but have powerful long-range radar. assuming they're all as effective as advertised you'd want to echelon your defences, something like THAAD for longer range and AA artillery like the Gepard guns for close range and clearing slow, low-value targets like the GERAN drones

Performance has changed...that's what's important kid.

only to the maximum degree allowed by its design.

the only constrain to infinity performance upgrades is design.
