They brought him back for Discovery, which takes place in the same era roughly. I haven't finished watching it because its shit.
However, Pike is also in Strange New Worlds (along with Spock and Kirk + his brother) and it is very good. Feels like old trek again, and not just an action sci-fi. The TOS episode you're talking about is very relevant to the overarching story. -
