Donbass had their own army units who defected to the provincial government, then later Russia topped up their logistics.
Crimea had a shit ton of Russian hardware due to all the Russian military bases that were located there, on land rented from Ukraine.
The Kyivians are keen to bully the Donbass back into the fold, spotting the weaker target that they think they can take, but they haven't done the banzai charge to reclaim Crimea yet.
Ukraine's army is in desperate state, it's been looted the same as everything else in the country. -
2021-11-09 at 11:04 AM UTC1. Yeah most Ukrainian military in the East either defected to the rebels, taking their hardware with them, or fled west and abandoned it
2. A lot of the remaining military refused to fight the rebels, so early on much of the fighting was done by the 'volunteer battalions' who were very poorly disciplined and trained, even with superior numbers and hardware
3. Read about the debaltsevo cauldrons if you want to see how the rebels were able to defeat large numbers of government forces and take all their toys -
2021-11-09 at 11:12 AM UTCNATO actually offered help already, it's Warsaw which doesn't want any...
PiS should swallow their pride and accept help.
12th Mechanized Division soldiers were already attacked with tear gas - if Belarussians give migrants proper weapons, instead of gas and fence destroying tools, then things might get nasty - for example when professional army is rotated by amateur Territorial Defence, which will happen sooner or later - 8000 of them have been called to the border.
What a mess... :-/
P.S. What Gemany could do is to threaten the definitive closure of NS2 project, if Putin doesn't call off his dog. It is now more than obvious that he supports Lucuntshenka in this hybrid war. It is rather unlikely though, seeing as even the occupation and proper war against Ukraine didn't stop this "work of genious" project. -

the EU, and Germany in particular, needs Nord Stream probably more than Russia does
and like I said, why would Russia want Belarus to do this? it does not benefit them in any way.
this is Luka's response to EU sanctions relating to that plane he had forced down -

EU needs to introduce the harshest sanctions possible. Not the current "some individuals, some companies, some goods in some time with some loopholes left" approach, but sanction everything right now. Total trade and logistic blockade of Belarus, complete embargo, no business whatsoever in any industry and walks of life.
And it's not just Belarus that needs to be sanctioned. No way this is happening without some approval and/or support from Russia - punish them too. Sanction all the countries, airports and airlines involved in this.
Yes, it will cost EU money, but it's time to realize that safety and well-being are not free, not when you have neighbors like Belarus and Russia. We are under attack, and defense does cost money. And the longer it is tolerated the more expensive it gets. Act now, help Poland.
For those worried about "sanctions only hurt Belarusian people, not the regime", EU can make it easier for Belarusians by giving them more opportunities to escape the sanctioned totalitarian zone that is Belarus. And in the long-term, Belarusians will only benefit from destroying the regime.
As long as the EU authorities are unwilling to act, they create hell for the Polish and Lithuanian border guards with their own hands.
Lukashenko not a problem only for Belarusian people anymore, he's a a threat to the whole Europe. He must be stopped.
But of course this will NEVER happen. Merkel is in love with that juicy Russkie gas pipeline, so nothing will be done. It's always about the money. German media will start propaganda how fascist Poles beat innocent women and children once **** hits the fan. -

2021-11-09 at 11:19 AM UTCoh, and NATO's 'help' consists of hosting TBMs in Poland, which does nothing except ensure Poland gets vaporized the moment a war breaks out

2021-11-09 at 2:11 PM UTCmore shit from the polish forums:
(google translate)
....In view of the increasing numbers of migrants at Poland's external EU border, Brussels is working flat out on new sanctions instruments against airlines and other parties involved in illegal smuggling activities. According to diplomats, the permanent representatives of the governments of the EU countries want to initiate an expansion of the current sanctions regime this Wednesday. It could already be officially decided at the meeting of EU foreign ministers next Monday.

...The move should make it possible, among other things, to force companies based in the EU to cease all business relationships with the Belarusian airline Belavia with immediate effect. One of the consequences of this would be that aircraft leasing companies would have to reclaim aircraft lent to the airline. In addition, tour operators and airlines from third countries could also be targeted.... -
2021-11-09 at 2:18 PM UTCmore info from dem polak forums:
"Lithuanian authorities report that migrants are being transported from Polish to Lithuanian border. I said that this would happen - they will cross Lithuanian border more easily and head towards Lithuanian-Polish border, stretching our forces. If the same thing happens on Ukrainian border it will require doubling the forces at least. :-/
This will cost billions, and the EU is blocking Polish funds, because we are "undemocratic". Brilliant..." -
2021-11-09 at 2:32 PM UTCOk this is crazy apparently te entire polish army is at the border there as is the russian belarussian armies. shit could go bad fast. theyre both gearing up and poland has too much pride to ask for nato help in any way.
-
2021-11-09 at 2:33 PM UTCthis has all the hallmarks of shit hitting the fan really really quickly. even belarussian troops were spotted across the border testing the polish border patrols or defense and trying to irk something on. like actual fucking belarussian military and this was days ago now the entire russian army is there. russia didnt start that war, the joonited states did by paying and arming a bunch of nazi thugs to do that maidan coup.
