2020-09-14 at 10:52 AM UTCyeah not so much here because brass knuckles are illegal, but the design makes it kind of grey-area
like the carabiner folding knives that are made to get around the 'trench knife' ban -
2020-09-14 at 10:55 AM UTCOh, I don’t quite understand the differences in knives.
What’s a carabiner, and a trench knife? I looked up carabiner, and it showed a pocket knife with a pearl handle? -

If it had soft silicon inserts for the face and belly no one would ever know what it was. -

You have me questioning this but aren't carabiners just the clippies and nothing to do with the actual knife? -

2020-09-17 at 4:35 AM UTCYour laws are so fucking stupid and pointless, I am constantly baffled by what is illegal in Australia.
Can you not just go to your library and 3D print a trench knife handle to put a blade in? -
2020-09-17 at 4:50 AM UTCyeah but 3D printing materials are fake and gay
butterfly knives are illegal here apparently because people kept accidentally stabbing themselves and 'wasting hospital resources'
now I think they banned the import of karambits for some reason
people who sell folding knives to Australians from overseas all know that they have to tighten the motherfuck out of the pivot screw because otherwise customs will steal it because it's a 'flick knife'
which isn't even illegal, customs just added it to their 'prohibited imports' list because they're turbogay -

What's wrong with 3d printing?
Do you think you'd still be into this stuff if it wasn't illegal? Butterfly knives distinctly scream angsty 13yr old to me. Mostly because I really wanted one when I was 13 and couldn't buy one. -

karambits are those curved blades with a ring that came from SE Asia.
3d-printed components are too weak for something like this. I've considered getting a 3d-printer in order to print a part, make a mold in clay and then use that to forge the part in metal but it's... a lot of work.
I like the ones that have intricate mechanical tricks. it's more about that than whether they're legal or not - I only mentioned butterfly knives because I found the reasoning amusing, they're stupid and impractical. What I'd really like is a spring-loaded OTF knife but again, illegal. I'm looking at converting one of my folders to auto (ie. drilling stop holes and adding a spring). -
