Is it ok to use google to find them or does that instantly discredit them?

You could find them, but they still wouldn't be credited. That's the way it works now.

Presumably they wouldn’t cite the google link in the bibliography

not in law school. absolutely, a NO.
there are specific legal search engines law students/law schools use.

They are very expensive and attorneys continue to pay for them after they are in the profession. accurate resources comes from case law or legislation itself. reason being: When citing case law, new case presidents, court rulings, or Supreme court opinions- there is/can never be room for errors.

I just... I have to imagine even lawyers use google to find information regarding cases sometimes, if even indirectly and not information relating to particular case law.

    they are discredited-
reason being... people can add too or delete information. nothing worse than citing something- and it NOT BE FACTUAL.😬😢 for Wikipedia is the same. we NEVER use either of them.
