Making the unknowable trickster deity knowable completely undermines his whole character though. Like the exploration of the Q continuum could be hella interesting in its own right, but making the nigh omnipotent unknowable trickster more knowable defeats the purpose as far as I'm concerned. Just discount Ancients from Stargate at that point. -
2021-04-28 at 4:08 PM UTC in Star Trek?TNG. I have an undying love for the unknowable capricious trickster deity archetype, and Q fits very neatly into it (at least for the duration of TNG, Voyager ruins the mystique I hear). For that reason alone, TNG is the best Star Trek. DS9 is cool too though.

There's no guarantee that any amount of stuff you do will ever make you feel like your life is better. How many more stories must be written about bitter, miserable people who have done all the stuff and still never found happiness before you understand? How many more tales of dissatisfied kings? Of miserable, lonely businessmen whose preoccupation with accomplishment drove a wedge between them and their family? How many tales of rock star suicides and actor ODs will it take before you realize that "happiness" is to "doing stuff" what "time" is to the 3 spatial dimensions - somewhere between loosely connected (at best), to being little more than a figment of one's perception? No. We have all thought this lie in our time. Some of us have even believed it, done things, and therefore been happy. But therein lies the rub - it's belief. You don't need to do things to have a happier, better life unless you believe the lie that you must do things to have a happier, better life.
You can be happy with pushing the boulder, but you'll never be happy because you're pushing the boulder. -

I very well might instinctively swat a spider crawling on me. I would prefer not to, but "thing crawling on you, SWAT IT" is a pretty ingrained response. Dangling near my bed is fine tho. Also I live in Canada so worrying about dangerously venomous spiders would be irrational. If I lived in a tropical climate I would have a healthy, rational fear of spiders. -
