Don't get me wrong I think all the shootings were justified (or at least started that way), I'm just not 100% sure about the final bullet in one of the shootings. 50/50 on that one trigger pull, as it may technically constitute an unlawful use of deadly force. If you're 100% certain about it either way, I'd say that's a far better indicator of bias. 🤷 -

To be clear I'm not 100% sure about this, it is not cut-and-dry obvious, but watching the drone cam footage it does kinda look like Kyle might have maybe possibly... just a little... like... executed him. Rosenbaum goes down pretty quick and it looks like he's on the ground when the last little puff of gun smoke happens.

Even if what they get up to today is not quite analogous to either traditional "forest hermit" life or monasticism, I don't think it's particularly controversial to say that 200 year ago most who are hikiNEETs today would be following one of those two paths.

I think the monk comparison is kind of silly/inapplicable as well (mainly for the fact that most of what we do is, as you say, basic hedonism vs a true monk's grander calling). I'd say we're far closer in spirit to hermits than monks (not even fun garden hermits - more "mentally unwell guy living in a cabin in the woods who shoots anyone who tresspasses"). That said we interact with one another much the same as monks do... just not in person. We don't live together in the same physical cloister - we go into seclusion alone, and reach out to one another through electronic prayer. Also while much of what we do is base hedonism, some of what some do is not. There are many NEETs who use their time to pursue spiritual enlightenment, meditate, pray, etc. 🤷 -

There was a point where I was upset that I didn't have those things, but primarily this was a youthful failure on my part to understand what I actually wanted (vs what I was expected to want). The issue was more peer pressure to give into the "drug" of socializing than lack of access to the drug - as far as drugs go, it is not one that I particularly enjoy. The only reason it actually sucks to live like this is how it effects your prospects for a love life, but even then it's not entirely hopeless, and it's easy enough to embrace a quasi-volcel mindset about the quasi-involuntary celibacy one experiences when living simultaneously without society and within it.
