I chat in a public room for people in my profession. It's tech, so it leans left, and a few of them discuss politics. I said some mild stuff (nothing like my NIS shit posts) about how I preferred Trump over Biden for some fairly concrete reasons, mainly related to geopolitics.
It turned sour very fast. I got told that believed in flat earth theory, liserd people, that I was drunk, that I got all my news from info wars, and that I "needed help". They actually tried to make me question my own sanity for disagreeing with them.
Keep in mind, everyones real name was either visible or very easy to find. As were there places of work, jobs where you could get fired for acting un-professionally online. It wasn't a no holds barred shit posting zone like here. And people in tech are 99% autistic wimps who would never talk shit to your face. But wow did they turn very nasty, very quick. And while a few people tried to change the subject, not one person said they were going too far.
Lessons learned?
1. I can't stay in the closet when people are talking New York Times and circle-jerking all over my cereal. I'm gay right wing and I'm proud
2. I need to stop talking to people in tech. I've known this since I was in university, but I think this was the wake up call I needed
3. I need to bring my skills to another industry - I have the ability to talk to normal people in business and not ramble on about inside baseball while staring at my shoes. Someone who can do this and make you an app is rare as unicorns.

I know many of us are nostalgic for totse/zoklet, but if you think back, it was kind of a pain in the ass. "inb4lok" was a meme for a reason - power hungry mods constantly locking shit.
Anyway I am only nostalgic for totse - not zoklet. I tried to really like zoklet but I was hardly posting towards the end. All the interesting characters had gone.
