Even if so its still like I said, he did certain things in his career to stay in office. Slavery is obviously seen as completely awful now but back then it was still controversial and it was unlikely he could even pass a law legalizing it to begin with -

Yes he did. He wrote extensively about it but basically thought it was too dividing of an issue to comfortably run on it. No different than politicians today. They run on what's electable.
It was a great strategic move but also something he believed in.

All you gun fags who don't support each and every one of these is a hypocrite. Republicans break them with regularity. People right now are having their freedom of speech infringed upon, as well as their freedom to protest, due process, have equal protection, voting rights, freedom of the press, etc etc etc.
Yet absolutely nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is trying to take your guns. And besides, nothing in the constitution says you don't have to register the guns. Just like you have to register to vote, register a church, register a march, etc. -
