It's the leading cause of death in the US right now. Above car accidents, above cancer, above heart disease.
The flu never got that bad. And we're not even in the second wave yet, which is historically always the worst. I think something like 70% of people during the 1918 H1N1 epidemic died during that second wave.
I know someone who died form it. This shit is serious.
And even healthy people die anyway. This is why social distancing is important. It's not supposed to prevent you from ever getting it. It's supposed to reduce viral load and slow the spread so hospitals don't crumble under the pressure. People were sleeping on the floors in NY hospitals. If you think that shit is okay, I don't know what the fuck is wrong with you.
This has already killed 4x more people than the flu did at it's highest. More like 6x if you look at the average. -

The Federation is an intergalactic conglomeration consisting of Humans, Vulcans, and other races. Their main purpose is scientific, though they have been known to engage in war when pushed, like the Romulan-Earth war or the war with the Cardassians.
Within the Federation, there is no money. Every citizen in the Federation is provided with food, medical care, and housing. This is largely achievable due to the invention of the replicator, which uses matter as an ink to create essentially anything you want. Food, drugs, clothing, mechanical parts, art supplies, literally anything you want.
This means that if you are hungry and your replicator is somehow out of matter, you can go dig up a pile of dirt and have it turn into a delicious meal of steak and potatoes, cooked to your specifications. Maybe you want a little less salt, or some carribean spices, or you want your steak well done (heathen). Doesn't matter. The replicator can do it. Dirty dishes get put into the replicator and turned into matter for another meal. All food from this is nutritionally balanced as well, so you can eat whatever you want and still be healthy.
Education is provided to all in the federation as well. You can do nothing your whole life, sure. But most people don't. They seek out an education. The Federation is full of scientists, artists, engineers, etc. There is no such thing as being poor.
Likewise, crime has been nearly eradicated from planets like Earth and Vulcan. Turns out people are pretty happy when their needs are met. There is still the occasional passion and political murders, but you don't have to worry about getting mugged or robbed on Earth. 99% of people live a peaceful existence, and have everything they could possibly want.

My state gas a good gov and numbers have been significantly dropping. It makes a difference. Masks have been required since march or april.
