"You aren't happy cuz I can't understand how you could be. Let me crowbar this conclusion due to my obvious analpain that you don't take my delusions about understanding neurology seriously." -

Nope.
Most people who suffer from clinical depression, continue to suffer from it even if they continue to hold a normal life together. The same way a cancer patient can if it ain't too bad.
I've written about this before in my personal case. I deal with it without medication, so it sucks. If I had a worse environment or headspace, I can totally see myself giving in. I don't know what spark behind my eyeballs keeps making the right choice amongst all the wrong ones that come up, but I have absolutely no guarantee it will do so tomorrow.
The fact is, it is a disease, denying it doesn't mean you don't have it. Might as well deny gangrene. -

Originally posted by GGG This is a solid observation. That's why I have qualms about people going to psychologists and psychiatrists and stuff. It's their job to diagnose you, and once you're diagnosed that means you're SICK. You need help. You have a condition that you are suffering from. Some people think they'll just NEVER grow out of it. Their bipolar disorder will never get better, their depression can never improve, etc. And by doing that, they turn their pessimistic ideas into reality. Of course it's true in some cases, and with some disorders, but for the vast majority of people, being autistic or bipolar or depressed isn't the end all. Your life is not over. You don't have to let that shit own you.
I hallucinate whenever I'm stressed or haven't slept. It sucks but I just power through it and try to be objective about it so that I can keep my sanity. Luckily I don't suffer from delusions and I almost always know they're hallucinations. Nobody in my life knows about it unless I've told them, so I guess I do a good job at keeping it to myself. A lot of people do think I'm a fucking weirdo though, because I'll say things like "We should get a tarantula for the night" and get a lot of weird looks. My good friends just go with it though and then we talk about tarantulas. It's great. Always possible to find people and places where you fit in, you know? Don't gotta feel victimized just because you have X condition.

You understand that these disorders actually involve your neurochemistry right? You can't logic your way out of depression, body or autism and it will always be a hindrance unless they actually get a handle on what's happening. -

Originally posted by Obbe I actually haven't seen that yet. But I am planning on it. Why are you such a negative person towards me? We used to play Minecraft together and you would ask me about God. Now you do weird drugs and are an asshole. I try to contribute to your thread and you just want to argue. I think I will just stop participating.
I just know it is useless to discuss philosophy with you because it's not going to go anywhere.
And the reason for that is that you in no sense feel like learning anything or having your mind changed. You can deny it, I will tell you it is bullshit and what you say does not match what you do.
You read one book, then defend the position found from that. That's fine. What's not fine for me (why I'm not going to entertain serious discussion with you till you demonstrate otherwise) is that you so fundamentally fail to grasp even what you're spouting that you literally cannot progress any conversation once anyone presses you on it beyond your emotional attachment to whatever you made your mind up about.
The ought/is discussion on the meat thread was a great example because it was brutally obvious no matter how anyone posed any questions, you had no idea how to respond so you just parrotted "no ought only is" on repeat.
You can actually Google the way that specific argument has gone on other forums and websites and do a broad comparison to the way you handled it. Go ahead, do it yourself.
Learn intellectual honesty. Learn basic logic. Learn to examine your own position. Then we will talk. Until then I can just waste my time talking to a brick or Gadzooks instead. -

Poker chips are basically monopoly money.
We should start a monopoly money casino, where we sell you monopoly money for real money that you in turn spend at our casino anyway.
Hey I just pitched you a casino with shitty chips. -

2019-03-21 at 7:14 PM UTC in The Hard Problem of ConsciousnessOr or or or, here's a genius idea: these are real patterns in the world that emerge from lower level phenomena, and they can be studied as their own class of objects, and often better than is done reductively. E.g. Biology for animals as opposed to physics.

2019-03-21 at 7:12 PM UTC in The Hard Problem of ConsciousnessAtoms don't exist, they are just some fields interacting. Fields don't exist it's just some properties of a hyperspace. A hyperspace doesn't exist, it is the mathematical description of a higher dimensional n-gon.
