It's purposely a very hard sentence not necessarily intended to punish the individual person who tampers with the product, but to deter people from doing so in the first place. Who's going to do that now, knowing that you can and very possibly will go to prison for it?

I'm re-reading the original, uncut version of "Off Season", by Jack Ketchum. It's about a family of cannibals who live in the woods and drop down on people and chain them up and then eat them and stuff. Some of the events in it are so graphic and descriptive it blows the mind. In the edited version, they've cut out and deleted and edited all the really good parts.
