Texas teens lick ice cream and put it back in store freezer

In a video that went viral widely across social media – for all the wrong reasons – a young woman in Texas walked into her local Walmart, opened a container of ice cream, licked it, and then put it back in the freezer.
But now the sick joke could be on the woman, instead: she faces up to 20 years in prison as a result of her actions, according to KSTP ABC.
…
Police have identified and apprehended the sick-licker, but will not name her because she turns out to be a minor. Before they realized she was a teenager, police warned they had planned to arrest her on a charge of second-degree felony tampering, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail. But. . .
"Because she is a juvenile offender, her identity is protected under section 58.104 of the Texas Family Code," Lufkin Police Department spokesperson Jessie Pebsworth said.
"The case will be turned over to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department."

2019-07-07 at 2:55 PM UTCPeople are so fucking dumb trying to tamper with food. One time I had to stop a co-worker from ghost chilli-ing the customers and I had to wash everything down and change ovens and dishes.
She was 16 and that would've fucked her so hard. Yet she had the balls to get mad at me for it. -
2019-07-08 at 5:26 PM UTCPossible 20yrs for licking ice cream, only in Tejas.
-
2019-07-08 at 5:31 PM UTC20 years seems about fair.

I can see why the authorities don’t play around with this shit. What if she has Hep C, HIV, or any other communicable disease. After the Tylenol scare in the 70s, homie don’t play. -

They keep this quiet in order to prevent copycats, but there was at least one case of someone poisoning random grocery foods in order to ransom the supermarket company.
It's a very hard crime to protect against, and you can imagine the panic that would be caused. That's why products generally have such good seals. -
2019-07-09 at 11:34 AM UTCSoi, that all started in the 70s, with the Tylenol scare:

Guess it was 1982.
People were putting poisons in Tylenol. After that, the safety seal came about. -
2019-07-09 at 11:36 AM UTCAfter you get through the plastic coating, then you have to break the safety seal, oh wait, but that’s not enough, there’s that seal over the mouth of the container that takes your teeth to get off.
Yay, I’m safe X 3 -

Lol, easy money.
They always keep it quiet when they pay ransoms. -

And I've been bitching about product packaging ever since. Drives me crazy with the fight to get things opened and the resulting excess trash. -
2019-07-09 at 9:16 PM UTCAmerica's justice system is fucking gnarly. Lick ice cream like a retard because you're a teenage moron, and face a charge that carries a potential 20 year sentence. Not that she'll get anywhere near 20 years, but still. I mean sure it's gross and potentially dangerous, but there are people who do less time for actual murder in other countries.

Yeah, some of those hard sentences you get the impression that the crime is just an excuse to ruin someone's life just cos -
2019-07-09 at 10:47 PM UTCIt's purposely a very hard sentence not necessarily intended to punish the individual person who tampers with the product, but to deter people from doing so in the first place. Who's going to do that now, knowing that you can and very possibly will go to prison for it?
I'm surprised that ice cream didn't have a plastic seal on it already. Kind of careless for a company that wants to charge a 16 year old for licking ice cream.
But yes, it is of course very serious to keep the intergrity of consumer products high, and with confidences that people are not going to get herpasyphallitus from other people being retarded.
I'm also surprised that the media reported people on twitter being like OMGGF, WHO DOES THAT!?!??!?!?
like, I'm sure she's only like the 80 millionth person to ever do this in the U.S. -
2019-07-09 at 10:48 PM UTCAlso, WHY THE FUCK DID ARIANA GRANDE NOT GET CHARGED FOR SUCKIN' ON A DONUT AND PUTTING IT BACK
