it would pass one tower to the next and not switch towers fast enough (at least back in 2001) and they would have to be on roaming. they were audio fingerprint faked voices. the people getting the calls were questioning the messages saying they were odd. I know I said that people under stress do or say weird shit.. but not everyone. and the calls captured all had weird unusual things. One calling his mother by her first name or vice versa. instead of "Hi it's Mom it was said "Hi it's Barbara" (Not the exact name but the same point I'm making)

there were pilots on board.. the flight-boards were rigged. they shut down access to manual control. the controls just shut down, and they cut off the radio and had fake radio sent out. there was no reciprocating messages .. just announcements and open or hot mics.
but it was just prerecorded so in case soemone did intercept, they would see the radio signal in fact came from the planes. unlike the scenereo of the film Capricorn One where the communication guy said he pingged the message hundreds of miles away then went missing.
they wanted to make sure these incidences wouldn't happen. In a sense, whether Capricorn One was Predictive or just help the situation for the bad guys in advance.. it worked out. help stop anyway of proving what really went down.
