Yeah, I get that part.
And take note of the date this all happened... February of 2017.
I've been making upwards progress ever since.
But NOTHING... and I mean NOTHING excuses what they did... And ESPECIALLY covering it up as I have so clearly demonstrated. -

That's plenty of time for lots of showers and natural healing.
The initial injuries were absolutely BRUTAL.
If you support a police force that does that kind of damage to an INNOCENT CIVILIAN...
Well, it speaks for itself. -

You should just ban them. -

So I'm doing it no matter what. -

Yeah, but less and less.
The two security cams in the back, the chiming and other sounds that go off when anyone comes too close, etc, are all having an impact (tweakers, schizos, and criminals are all scared of cameras... And if they fall into more than one of the aforementioned categories, there is a compounding effect).
Also, I've been saying "no" more and more when I get phone calls or buzzes at my door.
That being said, the buzzes at the front door are still an absolute nuisance. I need a way to intercept them, and even silence them altogether.
I hate living in an old ass building without fancy video intercom and all that. I can't know who it is until I pick up the intercom handset. -
2019-04-23 at 11:17 AM UTC in Anyone here experienced with Arduino, or at least electronic circuitry more generally?Really interesting project Gad, looking forward to seeing Aldra's schematics. Personally i think i would just go mostly low tech on this one and set most of the stuff up with either relays and/or transistors depending on the voltage. I'm not much of a hardware guy, but i'd probably rig it so that when the buzzer goes it triggers a relay or transistor to supply a current to a simple receiver in a switchboard like setup, depending on what the receiver is designated for and whether the signal is on or off you could probably trigger a script to programmatically follow up with the steps you want happen next, if you are able to monitor what is happening on the switchboard. Like send some data over wifi to your phone where you have an app that can send data back that controls the rPi driving the switchboard or whatever.

it's got 5 terminals lol, would've been easy enough to test them with a multimeter

Still super educational for my purposes though.
the wiring will mostly be the same for what you want to do; their goal is just to intercept the signal received when someone hits the buzzer (12v on the buzzer line) and immediately trigger the relay to release the door. you won't need to worry about wiring anything on the buzzer line, rather you'll want to work with the audio line.
I'll draw up a diagram on how you'll probably want to wire everything to your raspberry pi -

It seems like you are enjoying this project and are learning a lot. I think that’s cool you decided to DIY, I’d probably pay someone to do it. -

Originally posted by aldra 3. Regardless it looks like that particular intercom uses a 12v EM lock, so to unlock the door you need to interrupt the 12v line. You'll need to wire in a relay to do this. An arduino relay board/shield is a cheap and easy way to do it and will work fine with the raspi.
i always think this kind of locking mechanism is shitty and designed by retards or it's meant to be used for low security functions.
proper locks should always be always locked, interupt to open, and a manual unlocking mechanism for when power fails, -

idk.
Everyone has to start somewhere.
You don't think I've heard some absolutely ridiculous programming or computer science questions before?
I prefer to encourage them learning more, rather than quitting altogether.
Of course, messing around with electricity has deeper potential repercussions... Electrical shock can be fatal.
But I can't imagine testing =<12 volt wires with a multimeter being all that fatal. -

Originally posted by aldra 2. Why do you need an arduino if you're planning on using a raspi anyway? You know the raspi has 2 rows of GPIOs right?
Damn, well I'll be... Shit.
I have an RPi 2 right next to me and checked inside the case, and bam, right there.
And I guess I don't need to solder or anything if I have those wire "sleeves" to attach raw wire to one of the GPIO pins.
It just so happens I just bought a pack of such cables (with the "sleeve" at one end).
I bought a whole bunch of electronics stuff that I figured I may or may not need. -
2019-04-18 at 6:25 AM UTC in Anyone here experienced with Arduino, or at least electronic circuitry more generally?typically those intercoms run a constant 5v, when you interrupt it the door lock releases.
I actually planned on doing something similar before I moved out of the place that had that system; I had a bluetooth hardware ID detection script running off of a raspberry pi, and I meant to wire a relay in to the intercom system so the pi could trigger a disconnection on the door lock line when my phone was detected.
Need more specifics to give you proper advice.
1. What exactly are you trying to do
2. Get a multimeter and test voltages. Arduino typically signals on 5v so if your intercom is running on 12v for example, you're going to need to consider that.
Yes the audio lines are analogue, but decoding audio is more complicated than just attaching them to analogue pins. Why do you want to capture audio at all? If it's for some kind of voice recognition or command, arduino boards are not powerful enough and you'll need to pass the audio on to a computer or something for processing. -
