Originally posted by NARCassist 1you guys do realize that NAS is just a child going through withdrawal symptoms after birth right? it stands for neonatal abstinence syndrome. it has nothing to do with brain damage at all.
2the fact is that doing tests to see if opiate use has any harmful long term effects is very difficult due to the fact that pregnant heroin users have a tendency to live a very neglectful lifestyle, they rarely eat properly meaning the baby is unlikely to be getting all the vitamins and minerals that are vital for its development. most will smoke and drink as well as doing all manner of other drugs.
what is a fact tho is that heroin and morphine do not cause permanent damage to tissue or any organs, it certainly doesn't alter brain matter or any other part of the body. it works by tricking the brain into releasing dopamine. dopamine is a neurotransmitter. it does not cause any harm to the brain or alter it in any way, its a natural part of your brain chemistry.
most of the heroin addicts you see that are fucked up are junkies, they don't use heroin exclusively. they'll use anything they can get their hands on. everyone including the media will always attribute their undoing to the heroin tho. a lot of the negative effects they experience are due simply to self neglect, not eating properly and poor hygiene. look at a junkie and then compare them to a true heroin addict who uses heroin pretty much exclusively and you will see a much different picture. i've been mostly exclusive to heroin for 23 years. i don't drink, i occasionally do acid and a little hash and not much else. i've always taken the time to keep a decent standard of hygiene and have always fed myself well. i am literally healthier than most people my age who are nothing more than 'moderate' drinkers. the only time i've ever had to go to hospital as an adult is when i broke my arm when i was 17. i rarely go to the doctors, and most of the times i have is to get a methadone script. so how do you explain that? after 23 years of using this drug that's so fucking dangerous and harmful.
and then look at sploo after just a few years of doing spice ffs, lol.
.
1. yes the withdrawal syndrome and the brain damage the opiatiod /causes the baby are separate things, but closely related
2. the fact that heroin makes people live miserable degenerate lives is just a result of heroin, not the heroin itself, therefore it is safe.
because you've been able to chip for 23 years, which is probably a total lie anyyway, somehow this generalization applies to all users as well as their fetuses? you're wasting your time do some jigsaw pussels instead. its cool you admitted your total lack of neuroscience comprehension tho -

you mean how they subconsciously control your mind and thoughts after using them to try to justify using them again? yeah its like being a manchurian candidate for a syringe lowlife -

Originally posted by greenplastic this, it's stupid to deny the harm that drugs do and it's more likely to get you in way too deep i think because it just gets you used to deluding yourself until it reaches insane proportions. i've seen more than one person literally tell me they quit doing pills/h, as they are racking up a line or cooking it down. another guy i know has been shooting h for like 7 years daily and has told me the entire time he's in the process of quitting. like at what point does the bullshit become so overwhelmingly obvious that you're forced to accept it?

not only is she derping the child's opiate receptors, but also the serotonin and glutamate receptors which seems like a perfect recipe for autistic child §m£ÂgØL2

Infants born to opioid abusing mothers can be preterm, and exhibit low birth weight, thinner cortices, reduced cognitive ability, and physical and behavioral deficits. In addition, studies have begun to identify long term social, psychological and behavioral abnormalities and deficits among children associated with maternal opioid exposure, including lower IQ scores, poor social skills, and with disruptive behaviors.
Evidence from cell culture and animal studies raises concerns regarding possible adverse effects. Opioid receptors are present in several brain areas, and multiple mechanisms could be affected by opiate exposure6. Prenatal morphine exposure adversely affects the migration and survival of neurons in rat embryos7. Morphine has also been found to increase apoptosis in human fetal microglia and neurons8, and recently prenatal heroin exposure in mice was shown to elicit memory deficits attributable to neuronal apoptosis9.
Neonatal withdrawal effects are observed in the majority of opioid-exposed newborns10, and neuropsychological difficulties are documented in children that have been prenatally exposed to heroin11,12,13 and methadone14, but the latter vary with the type of comparison group employed15. Smaller neuroanatomical volumes and regionally thinner cortices compared to controls in children with heroin and poly-substance exposure are documented, partly linked to behavioural difficulties1

both of the articles literally state it causes damage to the babies brain
you're trying to refute those articles by quoting "more research is needed" like that disproves anything
