Unfortunately there's no good shortcut to just buying a good modern BluRay player because BluRay is an evolving standard with unhelpful nominal continuity of that one brand name. There have been new BD standards quietly introduced all along the way that even make older BD players borderline useless, like the entire chain of encryption nonsense from the early days of BD.
I am too old and blind and deaf to notice the trivial differences in quality between streaming something on my PS5 on a 4K UHD and streaming it on a Blu-ray player
