Youtube went to shit when they did away with the 10 minute limit - it stopped being about people having fun and became way more commercial.

Youtube survived the early days by burning through tons of investor cash. They were one of those startup that is happy to lose money in order to develop a product and get popular enough to sell out to one of the big boys - an exit. -

The reason youtube gets away with its bullshit is because it's funded by google, and that enables it to make a massive loss every year. Also they use google's infrastructure to deliver the video - and the video files are huge - delivering that content isn't cheap.
Alternatives exist, like vimeo, bitchute and pew.tube, but vid.me has already folded.
Until we find a way to allow people to pay for the content they consume we will continue being the bitches of the likes of youtube. -
