The crystals were known as sun stones and allowed the vikings to tell what direction was north.
Vikings had no compasses, yet were able to cross enormous distances taking up to 3 weeks by sail and find small islands in the middle of the ocean. The North Atlantic is extremely cloudy, and it's not unusual to have weeks at a time without any sign of sun (even in summer).
To navigate the vikings used crystals, but can you tell me how they did it?
