2018-12-03 at 7:24 PM UTC in The Retarded Thread: Sploo Needs AttentionReality is not physical. Everything in this universe is made up of smaller components; organs, cells, molecules, elements, and atoms etc, but atoms are mostly empty space! Just a few small protons and neutrons, well, one proton at least, encompassed by a (relatively) massive probability cloud/standing wave function of potential energy, which is "the electron" (a "fundamental particle" which, like light, acts as both a wave and a particle, depending on the situation). The proton is a tiny little "ball" of energy. Current mainstream scientific models refer to it as a "particle", though they recognise that it's not actually physical, and also that it is composed of smaller "particles" aka quarks.
It's energy vibrating at a particular frequency within the various fields that occupy the universe to produce an interference pattern in the fabric of space-time that reflects its "appearance" (note: it doesn't have an actual appearance that we could see via the visible light spectrum, but it would be based in the electromagnetic spectrum so at some frequency it could be measured. And we always have 2d graphs and 3d models to help us visualise interference patterns). This interference pattern has certain properties that we can see and measure, like mass and charge.
When multiple interference patterns are within vicinity of one another, like a proton and a neutron, they superimpose, and produce a new interference pattern as their waves mutually constructively and destructively interfere. The quarks that make up protons are smaller interference patterns that produce the interference pattern of the proton through their respective superposition. The atoms come together to form elements, and molecules, and cells, and so forth, and it's all just interference patterns! None of this is "physical", it's just that these bodies we currently occupy and their sensory organs operate within certain frequency bandwidths due to their respective interference patterns, and so the particular interference patterns within the certain frequency bandwidths across the electromagnetic spectrum that our sensory organs (skin, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, stomach, brain, heart, liver etc) "tune into", or resonate with, are the ones that we see and call "reality". But it's not "reality". It's just our shared little radio station, or stations, in space-time. -

This idiot is an alien. He has no connection with his soul .. the only thing that never dies. Well .. that once was true, souls are burning out at a rapid speed.

2018-11-09 at 9:48 PM UTC in What is the meaning of life?Meaning isn't something things just have, meaning is something humans give to things. Life has whatever meaning you give it.
Some people don't give life any meaning and so they lose themselves, lose touch and fall into the void. -

Originally posted by PhD in Condom Mechanics It is fine if you want to say agency instead of will, but that's not the argument you've been making at all: the issue you've taken is with the word "free" not being applicable if there is any antecedent cause to an action. You need to justify why that is, because I'm perfectly happy to say that that sense of the word free is just stupid, we can both agree, and you're making a rather pointless and completely semantic argument
The point of repeating the "essay like responses" is to show that you can't articulate why the spoopy ghost is integral to your meaning of free will, other than it being part of the "common understanding" of the term, which is not even remotely close to being true; every single person was raised by a couple parents/guardians who probably have full awareness that the upbringing they're providing is going to shape their child. So what else?
No, see, this is the point: Sam Harris is unnecessarily joining the concept of ultimate self causation to free will.
When I say "you signed the contract of your own free will", no part of my statement necessarily implies that you are an ultimate causal engine.
Right, but I think most people do feel that they are ultimate cause of their intentions and decisions. I don't need you to agree. I don't believe most people associate their thought intentions and actions with the chain of cause and effect that came before, they feel like it's something they are in absolute control over, and when their bodies do something unexpected like sudden organ failure they feel like victims of their biology rather then the bosses, even though there isn't really a difference. -

2018-09-09 at 5:35 PM UTC in The Odroid GoI recently purchased an Odroid Go for $32. An Odroid Go is a DIY portable handheld game console/emulator that plays NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Sega Gamegear and Master system as well as Colecovision if you update the firmware to the latest version.
Putting the device together is fun, easy and doesn't take very long. You can also buy replacement parts if you were to break something. There is no soldering required, all the parts simply plug into place. An SD card is required and is not included in the kit.
The screen is excellent quality. The shell feels like good quality, the buttons feels great. The battery life is great, lasts me days with the amount I use it, have heard that it will last average of 6+ hours of constant usage with low volume and normal backlight setting.
The sound quality is not the greatest at higher volume but is absolutely fine at low volume. There is no headphone jack but the device is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capable - these are currently not utilized but future updates maybe possible to use Bluetooth headphones with the odroid go. Currently I have seem one person who is selling headphone jacks that plug into the 10-pin port on the top of the device for about $15 online.
I recommend this device for anyone interested in portable classic gameing.
