As it turned out it was a blessing in disguise as I'm now moving to Kansas City in the new year and land is plentiful and cheap there so I'm excited to be land hunting soon. I've been told you can get a nice 5 acre plot for under 50k.
You can get 20 acres or more with good water for that out here. 10k an acre is steep if you ask me. I got 20 acres with 7 fenced and a 22 year old site built 3800 sq ft dwelling for just $285k. -
