There are two reasons MS enjoys the market penetration it does. First they have been channel partenrs with every PC manufacture since the first IBM PC. So the consumer public has been getting an MS OS every XMAS since 1983. Which means everyone currently in the workforce is familiar with the MS OS. Which brings ties in with the second reason which is this. The ability to control and manage an enterprise environement that the average person can use the workstations in without learning a new OS. Linux doesn't come with a new PC and it isn't as easy to manage Linux workstations for end users in an enterprise environement.
I'm not saying Linux isn't a better OS, but it has not been developed for large scale server client/end user workstation use and environments nor has it been marketed to the average consumer nearly as well as Windoze has. -
