   because they dull your senses and after a time your brain adjusts to compensate. this is why you get tolerance and need to take more to get the same effect. but then when you stop using your brain takes a while to re-adjust back to normal, which means all your senses are on hyper-sensitive for a while. this is why colors look brighter and things smell more vivid while withdrawing, you prolly also notice a sudden increase in sex drive too. your nerves are set to a fine balance so that normal bodily operations don't aggitate you. but on hyper-sensitivity some of these normal functions now aggitate you for a while. ever notice while withdrawing that your throat feels all phlemy? its always phlemy, your brain just compensates so you don't notice it as much usually.
