Why is hedonism pointless but learning is not?
I mean, the whole point of hedonism is that it is enjoyable/pleasurable. Doesn't seem pointless to be happy. Might be meaningless in some sort of grand scheme of things but that doesn't really matter when you're enjoying the moment.
Learning could be considered hedonistic if it's something you enjoy doing. It could also be considered pointless if mankind or the universe itself is destined for doom and everything we worked for and all the knowledge we gained was in vain. -

That said, the math is solid - this is exactly what I was referring to. He uses two separate points from the same audio stream (ie. higher-pitched strikes on the pavement vs lower-pitched gunfire) so you don't have to worry about the video and audio or two audio files being out of sync with each other, and the timing difference is significant. To be certain he's right you'd have to analyse his work and make sure that he did match the gunshots correctly to the 'ricochet' sounds but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt there (because verifying would be too much like hard work). The triangulation suggestion is an excellent idea and would be worth looking into if you could get a hold of a few geo-coded videos of the event. As a private investigator you could get in contact with the uploaders who put the videos on youtube and ask them for the raw files, then you could do the same analyses and use the geolocation data to pinpoint where each circle should be.
There is one possibility he didn't take into account though - it's possible that there was just the one shooter, but he was using different kinds of ammunition. He may have packed one magazine with standard rounds, but the next magazine contained higher-pressure or wildcat rounds - this would cause bullets to travel at different speeds, resulting in the apparently mismatched timings between firing and impact. -
2017-10-24 at 11:57 PM UTC in I've been watching this terrible, terrible show about gay people
Originally posted by mmQ Do you have the type of relationship with your brother that you can call him a faggot?
Yeah, but that's probably because I called him a faggot before I knew he was gay and just never stopped.Eh it's probably not like that, in fact I bet it rarely even gets brought up because there's just no reason to really bring it up the same way there isn't a reason to bring up the fact that straight people are straight every time you get together. How gay is he if you don't mind me asking on a scale of 1 - Elton John?
When I was younger I disliked gays in general, but I eventually came to the conclusion that it wasn't the gays themselves that I had a problem with - it's the LGBTQWERTY 'popular culture' and it's associated activist groups.
On one hand I find the act repulsive, on the other I could best be categorised as something of a libertarian so it doesn't really concern me if they want to... get muddy.
Popular gay culture, though, ie. hypersexualisation of everything, dissolution of tradition and societal norms, hedonism, narcissism, poorly-masked nihilism, 'hookup culture' and the like have an impact on the rest of society, especially through 'gay activists' who specifically try to normalise this behaviour.
I like to think my brother feels, to some extent, the same way - he doesn't partake in that sort of thing, goes to clubs and stuff every now and again but has been in a long-term relationship for a while, and got kicked out of a university 'gay collective' for telling them it was counterproductive to treat everyone who doesn't agree with them as enemies.
So uh, 3?I wonder how many of the GAYLETTERS community fall into the encouragement camp and actively try or hope to try and influence their kid to definitely be at least bi-sexual. I'd LIKE to think it's not qs high of a number as it might seem, giving credit to common decency and common sense that hopefully even the most flamboyant of gays can discern the difference between encouraging their children to be a certain way and encouraging them to just be who they want to be.
too politicised to know for sure, I've seen some truly awful news and social media postings though. It will be interesting to see 50 years from now how this era of more gay openness and acceptance winds up impacting the overall demographic cuz like you said kids are becoming more familiar with gay concepts at younger ages and the taboo nature of it all is slowly, and I do mean slowly, FAGGOT, making way for a more nonchalant view of others having different attractions.
The pendulum's swinging back toward traditionalism (in the west). Over the last 30 years or so the general societal perspective has pushed so far left of centre (ie. leftist groups using popular culture as a force multiplier to push issues and social conversations toward 'progressivism') that a rebound has become inevitable - the rise of the 'alt-right' and more public 'acceptance' of white nationalism and ethnocentrism are a symptom of this... Not the reaction in and of themselves that the media makes them out to be.
Assuming western society lasts that long I'd doubt we'll end up back in the days where homsex was illegal, but this ridiculous culture of glorifying anyone who goes against the norm will end and hopefully soon. And I agree that that 30% figure would go down as the PRIDE movement begins to shift into less of a HEY I'M A GAY TODAY, HEY HEY! type attitude and hopefully a more relaxed 'yee im gay whatever you wanna get high or what bro?' attitude. The pressure for kids who might feel 'different' feelings will decrease as well so I'd bet the overall numbers go up to like maybe even 10% population is openly gay affiliated.
I think statistically in the west around 7-9% people identify as homo-erectusOn a related note if someone could tell me why far more men are attracted to lesbians than women are attracted to gay dudes, that'd be great. Or why homophobes mostly don't carry an equal disdain for female homosexuality. I don't need an answer to the last one- it's always come to my mind as this laughable underlying and rarely addressed truth behind the whole "gay debate."
1. I think it's a function of what men and women typically desire in a sexual relationship; men typically value the physical component whereas women seek the emotional component. In lesbians men see 2x the physical component whereas a woman watching two dudes swordfight gets no emotional gratification because they're concentrating on each other. -

Originally posted by mmQ I concur with the voicemail disdain. Got 5 unheards been hanging out on my phone for about a month now. I guess my spite is also directed at the message leavers in the form of day in day out refusal to listen to anything of any magnitude that they may have had to say, leaving the little indicator on my phone bar up as a reminder for me to continue not checking them, for ANY REASON, because spite.
Well that and I know that 4 are just gonna be hang ups and 1 is an appt reminder.
Messages are nice. It's like an effigy of a person that they leave, peeling off a little morsel of their soul to be left behind in your inbox. And once you have it, it's there to stay. You own that piece of them. It's yours to savor, and yours to destroy. -

Really trenchant political critique there. Truly the behavior of a philosopher king.
