   I feel you. I think I got my cooking skills from my grandma who made everything from scratch, because she grew up on a farm in the 20's, and raised two kids on a farm in the 40's and 50's. Every now and then I'll use some 40's era recipe and realize that's where she got it from.

   my dad usually just preps meals for the whole week in one go so all the suffering is condensed into one chunk of time. its easier to just cook a whole pack of steaks and steam a pile of vegetables so all making dinner during the week consists of is putting it on a plate and microwaving it. its definitely going to be how i go about making dinners when i start living alone

   
   See, now, I actually enjoy preparing meals, so cooking for myself isn't a huge deal, and as I mentioned earlier in the thread, typically results in higher quality meals.
