Then there's the fact that most interest rates for savings accounts are abysmally low and don't come close to keeping up with the inflation rate, meaning you lose money over time. I don't know much about credit unions other than I've heard of them and that some people swear by them being way better than banks. Is that something I should look into instead of opening up a bank account? Are there any other viable and wise alternatives, as far as interest rates that at least keep up with inflation and also more secure for when the economy collapses or some shit? Either for storing money, or places to invest it.
