It really isn't. Work on these same types of vaccines (mRNA) has been happening since the 90s and for stuff like Zika. They're relatively well understood and pretty well tested as a general concept. Not to mention that testing for covid is going according to plan so seems like a solid, good thing.
You should have less confidence in the meat you buy than in mRNA vaccines, honestly. -

The historical reasons the jedilike religions disfavor pork is because people in places such as China, India, Middle Europe used to use things known as "toilet troughs", wherein human waste was fed to pigs, who were then later slaughtered and eaten. It was an early "folk" attempt at caloric efficiency but resulted in human parasites becoming adapted to and then borne by swine, and becoming transferrable to humans. Even though the ancient peoples had no conception of microscopic parasites and barely thought about the ones they even could see, they could still tell that sometimes plagues could be caused and spread by the consumption of food cultivated using certain practices, just as a matter of inquisitive observation and simple pattern recognition. They might have had no knowledge of the causal mechanism, but they could see the correlation.

As part of their religious prescriptions, they mandated better health and sanitation practices such as regularly and thoroughly washing as well as not eating certain types of food.

It's more that my entire life and upbringing I have known the swine as a filthy and repulsive animal, similar to how one might view a cockroach or a fly near a dungheap.
Would you eat a roasted cockroach? You probably don't care that much about what god thinks of it but if you've ever squished a cockroach and seen their gross hydraulic fluids squirting out, you yourself probably wouldn't think of it as appetizing.
In fact honestly, it's probably not harmful to you if it's properly cooked but you'd probably retch at the thought of biting into a juicy cockroach and having its green pus dribble onto your tongue and uvula and down your throat.
I find the swine to be similarly repulsive.
I recognize that perhaps if an alien or a robot rational observer saw me, they'd say it is an irrational judgment. But fuck that guy. -
