I think this was revoked because GG was convicted for some of his crimes (they got him on burglary I think).

This...plus your direct familiarity with that particular job as it pertains to that particular employer puts you in a position of "power" in the sense replacing you with a "man" off the street would require months/years of investment in an unknown quantity.
A relatively small investment in that person every year and recognition of his contributions is far more likely to result in a happy, productive and loyal employee rather than getting a new guy in that position every year who will never know the company/products/services/company culture etc as well as a guy that's been there for X number of years.
