I did the deal where you pick the parts and they assemble, for each piece they did have a "mystery meat whatever's cheap and in stock" option, but you could pick specific brands/models, usually at some (fairly reasonable) upcharge.

    I mean yes, you do pay for the service and your selection of parts is more limited, I'm sure you're paying some markup and you just generally have fewer options to control price. It's not optimal in terms of what you pay to get a working machine. But now that I'm not a broke student trying to cobble together something to play crysis in my dorm room I kinda appreciate trading cash for less research/assembly time/stress

    It’s pretty simple to download and install. Getting the ROMs (games) is a bit harder. I remember emu paradise was the place for a while: https://m.emuparadise.me/ maybe still is. I think there’s registration or some hoop you need to jump through to download but it should be fairly straight forward.

    You can map the controls to your keyboard and play games just fine (things that use the wii motion control are probably less fun on a keyboard though) but if you’d like to use a GCC this thing: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE will let you do so

    Everything crashes eventually but I’m not sure why now would be the time. Loss of confidence in the tech sector? Maybe, but I’m not sure other securities ride on it. Maybe housing could eat shit again, I guess why not, but that’s something that could have popped any time in the last 15 years and hasn’t

    First time joining was kinda brutal on the download. I bumped the speed cap but it’s still like 2 minutes. Hopefully it’s a one time thing.
