DU rounds fired from aircraft are moot to this point since theyre airborne and the designs intentionally direct gun propellant gasses away from the aircraft to avoid interference with the engine or other air-breathing components. with ground-fired rounds…especially tank-caliber sized (120mm in the case of NATO) ones…there is minimal concern for combustion by-product gasses since the majority of them are blown out of the muzzle. that being the case…a 'generic' DU round is fired at 4,000fps-5,000fps-ish, according to published sources. the actually velocity of the combusting propellant is probably classified but it is significantly faster than the velocity of the projectile. that being the case…high temperature, high velocity, gasses are blown past the DU-alloy projectile, which is partially covered with whats called a 'sabot', but basically is a boot-type covering, and may or may not be covered in a protective coating or aerodynamic caps (depending on the manufacturer and the MILSPEC requirements at the time of the contract fulfillment.) these gases strip away some DU-alloy, as well as create uranium-oxides, which become airborne once leaving the muzzle.

you are literally doing what you accuse me of doing while I'm not doing any such thing.
all sabot ordinance does not function the same, other than the sabot being a 'boot' surrounding a sub-caliber projectile. there are as many different applications of sabot as there are of projectiles. the only relevant sabot discussion is how they're applied to DU rounds...as in multiple petals that partly cover the 'penetrator' before being fired, then separate completely immediately after leaving the muzzle. the point being...a DU round is/can be exposed to the point of allowing the gasses of combustion to strip away the DU alloy, causing exposure to other's in the vicinity where the round is fired. this is a factual statement clearly contradicting your idiocy stating only the recipient of incoming is exposed.
additionally, you stated the video you posted depicted a very specific type of ordinance, when, in fact, ithe most certainly did not. this shows that either you didn't watch the video, or that you are absolutely clueless on the topic. my vote is both. -

my understanding is that du rounds are by default ... tinily radioactive, and therefore everything they came into contact with becomes tinily radioactive ....
and the blowback seems rather significant in this video.

tinily...yes...and in an insignificant amount compared to the toxicity of airborne DU. Anything the DU particles come on contact with will also carry the particles around. the chambers are by no means hermetically sealed and the smell of burned propellant is very, very strong inside the tank or whatever armored vehicle is firing a DU round...even with the AC/enhancements running. any round where the DE itself is exposed to the propellant gasses will dispers DU/oxidized-DU all about the firing position and inside the vehicle.
those rounds being loaded were training (blue) shaped-charge. the 'spikes' at the front are for standoff distance when the round impacts the target. -

Now we get less than 100 civilians killed by the same tyrannical government using the same exact type of gas as before, and Donald Trump, wiping tears from his eyes over all the dead kiddies, decides that the only moral choice is to initiate the first direct military action against the Syrian government by the U.S. since their civil war began.
