How to kiss

Imagine a kiss being like a job interview for the elusive role of being someone’s significant other. The interviewer is looking for the candidate who best matches the job description. Similarly, when we kiss, we are looking for a mate that best matches our genetic make-up. 'Wait, what do genes have to do with kissing?!' - I hear you scream. Well, we actually have a group of genes called the MHC (major histocompatibility complex) genes that form part of our immune system and give us our natural scent. In a famous experiment, women overwhelmingly preferred the smell of t-shirts worn by men with different MHC genes from their own. This is because when two people with different MHC genes mate, the baby they would produce would have a selection of components from each of their immune systems. A more diverse immune system has a greater ability to fight disease. Therefore, opposites really do attract. This explains why we prefer kissing one person over another. It’s in our genes.

People kiss in order to sample each other's immune system. Saliva is full of cells, and the best kisses always involve plenty of saliva exchange. MHCs are signalling proteins attached to the outside of cells. When you take a cell with MHC with significant differences from you own into your body, the immune cells in your mouth go crazy attacking the foreign cells. You experience this as a slight tingling sensation on your tongue and inside your mouth.
This is why some people feel really good to kiss, and with some people you don't really feel anything.
As well as selecting for all the other good stuff, animals in general tend to seek out MHCs different to their own in order to improve genetic diversity in terms of immune function. The more diverse the immune system, the more likely they are thought to be to survive rare diseases. -

I don't think you are wrong, I'm sure that is how the concept of kissing came about, but when you want to kiss someone you usually just do it because it feels good or you want to. Like how the "reason" you have sex with someone is to reproduce but really the vast majority of sexual intercourse happening is happening with people actively trying to avoid reproduction
