I was reading how they'd wait them out in the siege for sometimes months, and the people who finally stumbled out and surrendered were executed on the spot. They also catapulted huge vats of human excrement, urine and shit, over the walls, while blaring super loud horns at them day and night, demoralizing them and maintaining the terror level. They'd cut off the city's water supply, their food supply, burn massive amounts of wood and make smoke over the walls when the wind was right. Sometimes they'd toy with them and suddenly leave for no apparent reason, when they were winning, only to return a short time later to slaughter anybody who stayed. -
