27 or so...I'd do it for myself. -
2023-09-19 at 12:56 PM UTCFuck Mars, who wants to live there. Trust me living in an enclosed area gets old real fast.

Mars is -60°C (-80°Freedom) at best. Basically Mars would be like winter in the coldest arsehole of Siberia all year round, except no trees or animals. Nothing will burn in the CO² atmosphere either unless you tank in the oxygen anyway.
It'd be real. You'd spend your days making videos to beam home begging politicians for money to keep the supply rockets coming. -

There are some places on the surface in craters where the temperature can reach 70°F.
Oxygen can be produced in situ from water ice. Long term energy can come from solar panels with batteries, and/or a couple small modular nuclear reactors.
I don’t think Mars will ever be a “colony” within our lifetime but it makes sense to have a permanent or semi-permanent manned presence there as a waystation to facilitate further expansion in the solar system. Like if we wanna mine the asteroid belt or some shit. We gotta start somewhere -

Enough time should have passed so that I don't feel like I can get much more out of my time on earth. I'd say around 45-50. -
2023-09-19 at 2:13 PM UTCSome NIS members probably do OK because they are no-life shut ins already. Just imagine somebody like Bradley fucking with ya daily and there is nowhere to go to escape him. lol

Something like Biosphere 2?

Imagine building that on Mars.
Then trying to heat it. -
