The Petro cryptocurrency is a digital currency created by the Venezuelan government in 2018. It is unique in that it is backed by the country's oil reserves and is designed to be used as a form of payment for public services and goods. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, the Petro is not decentralized and is controlled by the Venezuelan government. It is also not widely accepted as a form of payment outside of Venezuela.

The Petro is built on the Ethereum blockchain and uses a proof-of-stake consensus algorithm. It is not a mineable currency, and new Petros are created through a process called "petro-mining," which involves validating transactions on the Petro blockchain.

One of the main features of the Petro is that it is pegged to the value of Venezuela's oil reserves. This means that the value of the Petro is intended to be stable and is not subject to the same volatility as other cryptocurrencies.

Overall, the Petro is an interesting experiment in state-controlled cryptocurrency, but it is not widely used or accepted outside of Venezuela.

the problem is that it's an unresolved territorial dispute going back a century, and the government of Guyana has invited EXXON and probably others to drill for oil there

They agreed to settle it non violently

Guyana is now on the EL PETRO system

this is how blind the world is to the reality of latin American economics

    https://www.cointribune.com/en/venezuela-vs-guyana-does-maduro-need-bitcoin-more-than-oil/

The top 10 countries most affected by inflation by CNews puts Venezuela in first place. With price increases nearing 430% in April 2023 (234% in 2022 and 686.4% in 2021), the incumbent president, Nicolás Maduro, is increasingly challenged by his people. Polls give him very little chance of winning the 2024 presidential elections.

And yet, other neighboring countries facing the same problems, such as Argentina, are not hesitant to turn to cryptocurrencies to deal with inflation. With a new anti-system president recently elected, Javier Milei, this Latin American country expects that other alternatives like bitcoin (and the dollar) may pull them out of the mud.

Can Venezuela find salvation in bitcoin? El Salvador, the first country to legalize the queen of cryptocurrencies, is not far away. And the Maduro government can learn from its experiences. Unless it persists in its policy promoting “21st century socialism” initiated by the late President Hugo Chavez, who died in 2013. In that case, its financial regulator Sunacrip will continue to impose increased surveillance of cryptocurrency transactions.

Here's your answer, they already did. capitalism is fucked, viva la petro!

government sponsored social media accounts with tutorials that will get on zoom with you and tell you how to move money around without it being sanctioned or frozen

If venezuela wanted war there is nothing the US state dept or any agency could do to stop this system, they have perfectly integrated technology into communism the likes of which the world has never seen.

Argentina and El Salvador are a fucking joke compared to what Venezuela has done under the thumb of global sanctions and massive inflation.

Didn't that dude from FEMA who filmed the Emptied out vault proving that the gold didn't melt as claimed (in the BATH TUB of WTC)

his wife commited suicide and then they said he murdered his wife and he claimed he had saved evidence 9/11 was an inside job. missing gold and papers in the vault left behind. I think he ran away to Venezuela to not be charged for his wife's murder as they claimed. they changed ruling on her death after he came forth with FEMA evidence.

crazy as shit that was memory holed
