A gun is also a lot of fun to shoot as well as a way to challenge yourself to get to be a better shot be it through target practice or venison steaks for supper.

Also a major storm which hasn't been seen in California in decades, a cyclone bring half to a foot of rain will bring snow to other states in the next few days. Maybe he was worried about flooding or scenery change of snow, got mad at the director and shot at him and the female camera operator.
