World to hit temperature tipping point 10 years faster than forecast

  1. The key to getting the correct data is the scope of your own personal research. If you only look at partisan and biased sources who constantly try to shut everyone else up, you won't get the big picture. Once you've examined the thing in its totality, you can then make a safe assumption which you can use as a rule to go by. Only a born idiot lives his life with horse blinders on.

They were predicting dooms day in the early 70s. Every ten years they been moving the goal post. You've haven't been aware of the world at large for even 20 years yet. When you talk about early 2000 you were like ten. You don't know shit now so you didn't know dick all then kid.

The most severe hurricane on record in Canada just hit the east coast. 95% of us have no power with no end in sight.

The extent of the devastation here is hard to wrap your head around. Just on my street alone there are two large trees with tangled power lines down still blocking the road and that's in the city where it's not as bad. Entire houses have washed into shore and onto people's lawns. The roof of people's houses have blown off. 2 or 3 schools have had the roof blow off and 6 total have been destroyed. Some places are entirely underwater. A few of our bridges have been destroyed. I could go on.

The storm started Friday night and continued into Saturday night. For over 12 hours we were pummelled with 170km/hr winds. Maritime Electric is not even halfway through the assessment phase, so they haven't even started on repairs to power lines yet.

In my province 95% of the population is without power. I have a friend who is an arborist and spoke with someone from Maritime Electric today, according to this person it will be 2-3 weeks before most places have power. This has been kept on the down low but I've heard this confirmed multiple times from people who have the inside scoop. The reason for this is the main grid lines that connect Borden to Charlottetown (one end of the island to the next) have been completely destroyed. It has to be completely rebuilt before they can even think about restoring power.

People are staying to run out of gas for their generators and cars and most gas stations aren't open, or if they are they have no gas to sell because they aren't able to get it from distribution centres. To make matters worse, any purchases we are able to make are cash only. I have $20 cash left and I'm getting worried.

This is most certainly a story about climate change. I've heard it said here before and I'll say it again: climate change is the only story that matters. Maritimers are hardy people, we've been through storms before but not like this. Estimated damage is so far in the millions of dollars at least and we are a very small, very poor province. I would say that's a very conservative estimate. This is absolutely devastating. Stay safe everyone.

U.S. warns Putin of 'catastrophic' consequences over nuclear weapons

The United States would respond decisively to any Russian use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine and has spelled out to Moscow the "catastrophic consequences" it would face, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday.

    The Return of Fascism

Energy and food bills are soaring. Under the onslaught of inflation and prolonged wage stagnation, wages are in free fall. Billions of dollars are diverted by Western nations at a time of economic crisis and staggering income inequality to fund a proxy war in Ukraine. The liberal class, terrified by the rise of neo-fascism and demagogues such as Donald Trump, have thrown in their lot with discredited and reviled establishment politicians who slavishly do the bidding of the war industry, oligarchs and corporations.

The bankruptcy of the liberal class means that those who decry the folly of permanent war and NATO expansion, mercenary trade deals, exploitation of workers by globalization, austerity and neoliberalism come increasingly from the far-right. This right-wing rage, dressed up in the United States as Christian fascism, has already made huge gains in Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Bulgaria and France and may take power in the Czech Republic, where inflation and rising energy costs have seen the number of Czechs falling below the poverty line double.
