i don't care if we all can make them, there is always the first person to think it up and put a design to it.

you began chewing gum because someone many years ago created chewing gum

No Soleimani was essentially the head of the IRGC, military arm of a Shiite Muslim theocracy.

The Iraqi militias of the time were mostly violent Sunnis who clashed violently with Iran and caused serious problems for Shiite regions in Iraq. They were not friends of the IRGC or Hezbullah

You're spamming up a thread Lanny already banned a person for spamming up, just to let you know. If Lanny is drinking tonight... well... we all know what happens to the spammer then.

tech takes x-rays because we discovered from taking pictures that film has negative qualities and we can transform that into physical imagery.

ok, i was giving examples of things we do now that had to be thought of and then created. just like these Soleimani ied's.

Do you actually think Soleimani invented the concept of an IED?

    originally, no.
but he has been militia since the early 1980's
we had landmines, but these ied's were new to even us.
so it's a recent invention and i do believe he maybe influenced the pressure settings and other things to ensure detonation.

He had nothing to do with the Iraqi militias that were churning them out, as per the previous links I posted.

IEDs were used significantly in the Vietnam war, probably way further back

    Historical use

The fougasse was improvised for centuries, eventually inspiring factory-made land mines. Ernst Jünger mentions in his war memoir the systematic use of IEDs and booby traps to cover the retreat of German troops at the Somme region during the First World War. Another early example of coordinated large-scale use of IEDs was the Belarusian Rail War launched by Belarusian guerrillas against the Germans during World War II. Both command-detonated and delayed-fuse IEDs were used to derail thousands of German trains during 1943–1944.

landmines were called ied's too but that would be incorrect.

a landmine, you can step on. it's stepping off that is the killer.

the ied just needs a literal foot pound and it detonates.

    big difference.

Like the Bouncing Betty. Step on it, you're fine. Step off it, POP > BOOM.

Bounding - Usually buried with only a small part of the igniter. When activated, the igniter sets off a propelling charge, lifting the mine about a meter into the air. ... protruding from the ground, these mines are pressure or tripwire activated.
