What type of assault rifle should I buy?

More choices. I think a drum mag would be good. Would it be a good idea to get those tripod-type things that slide down from the barrel and allow a person to rest the gun onto a fixed object? I imagine all of those bullets are going to make the gun heavy, so one of those tripod things might help.

Get a foregrip or bipod. Bipod is for stabilized shooting platform, foregrip will be to reduce recoil and sway effect when standing.

i say, don't listen to insecure internet badasses by buying a stupid gun that'll get you arrested and just buy something that works
i think most clipfeds are earlier 20th military rifles, so they wouldn't be too innovated or anything, and a good deal would be unsafe (sks bolt slips kill people)
if you're just shooting on a budget or just want to put holes in something, i say buy a single-shot rifle; you don't really need people to know you have a semi-automatic carbine with 25 round magazines at home, and it's a fuckload of trouble and paperwork in the end

i also don't get people getting bayonet lugs and lasers and 7 night vision scopes; just get what you know you'll use

I still haven't bought one, but if I get this new job, I'll buy one for summer for sure. An AK-47 is what I want. And I'll be getting one of those drum rolls that hold like 80 rounds.

Ive got a british 303. You wanna talk power? This bitch will drop elephants. Ammunition is pricey though. I always wanted an Ak47 or their notorious reliability to handle abuse and keep on firing- the shit you can do to an AK47 is unheard of with any other firearm. Its accuracy isnt great, but my opinion accuracy doesnt help you when your shit jams up from all the mud and sand you just drug your rifle through. I know the kind of person I am, shit doesnt stay pristine clean around me for long, I like to go play in the dirt so ita vwry likely for my rifle to get a dirt bath too.

It's not like you're getting an M60 or something like that. Just get a good gun, and worry about all the accessories later.

what a gun has determines its goodness.

YEASS. Guns goodnedd are determined and defined by their available accessories.

    Keyword : modularity.

You can't legally have an assault rifle in the US unless you live in certain states and have at least $8k

Get an AK if you're not planning on shooting long distances

The new Century RAS-47s are fucking amazing, most accurate AK I've ever had

If you're target shooting long distance just get a Savage or Ruger bolt gun, .30-06 if you think you'll ever learn to handload, .308 if you don't.

If it HAS to be semi auto get a DPMS LR308 or, if you don't want to spend a dollar per round on ammo, build an AR15. If you buy the upper complete it's trivial to finish it.

like you deal with elephants everry day.

I switched from .45 to 10mm because I saw a bear in my back yard one day

It's the best that I can get in a semi automatic handgun

    Hot-loaded 10mm might surprise you

Edit: I suppose I could convert to .460 Rowland or .40 Super but I'd rather not completely compromise my ability to follow-up in a defensive situation against humans just for a one in a million chance encounter against a bear

yes, 10mm is good and i would prefer it to .45 in a 'regular' pistol, but unfortunately it is too much of a 'niche' round with minimal to zero support in the pistol accessory department. if there was a sig- or HK quality, with commensurate magazine capacity, pistol in that caliber id convert to that as a primary carry pistol. .460 rowland is almost as bad, but at least it has a good selection of .452 bullets that can be used as compared to .400 bullets. in both .460 and 10mm the issue i have is using bullets designed for the lower velocities then having them 'splode when hitting a target at the unintended higher velocities. yes, sometimes that can be good, but there would have to be extensive testing done to figure that out. having a bullet 'splode in some fatasses blubber layer without penetrating to something important is never a good day.

i dont know why the fuck someone hasnt come out with a 10mm PDW/carbine. jesus christ...its ten times better than all these shitty 9mm hack jobs that are a dime a dozen.

and...there are several 'high power' pistol calibers in semi auto: desert eagle.

and...like i said...there is no 'normal' pistol round that is even marginally dependable against bears. if youre worried about bears, get a rifle or shotgun with slugs

and...if you do decide to use any pistol against a bear...keep in mind: dont use hollow points...use FMJ at least. wadcutters or even better, truncated...then empty the magazine into it. just keep pulling the trigger until you hear click and pray the bear-adrenaline isnt as strong as the bullets making some important part of said teddy bear go tits-up.
