I do not, as in higher power force, consciousness is an emergent property of funky stuff chemistry does. And since we're all made of the fundamental particles and forces of the Universe we're pretty much the same as a star, or a comet, or a tree. We just have different emergent properties than those things. What most people don't get though is that we can use our consciousness to assign value that is important to us to things, so we can say this is good or this is bad. Most people just go the Darwinist route and say: Oh well, it's a free for all fuck everyone and everything. I would fucking hope so, this is one thing that makes me mad about my gf. She says she's a Catholic, she says she believes in God and Heaven and all that jazz. But she doesn't go to church, she doesn't observe the sacraments, what i am saying is she is not particularly pious. Which pisses me off, not because i want her to be pious but if i believed in those things i sure as hell would do all the things. It's your immortal soul we're talking about here alright.
I've grilled her on this and she doesn't like it but she will suffer it because i will it so. So i asked; What do you believe? That God turned on the engine and the rest just came to be. Kind of like God lit the Big Bang and everything else followed. And she was like; Yeah. So i told her, then you're a Deist. And she told me no i'm a Catholic.
She's very sweet otherwise though bless her heart. -

Most lay Christians just believe in the ambiguous Christian “god” figure; they don’t necessarily really believe in all the rituals of Catholic Church. Was she raised catholic? Does she have catholic parents?
