Anyone riding motorcycles here?

  1. Do you guys think it would be a bad idea to ride a few years on the 300, then jump straight to a literbike? If i'm careful I'd be fine, right?

Or should I just spend a few grand on a pre-owned middleweight?

I rode a scooter first, and then drove manual bike for the first time, drove it for 2 years like a maniac, learned pretty much everything on it. And then moved to a real big bike.

What I learned is, I can easily go to a liter bike and make it work however, it depends on the bike type.

I wouldn't bother getting a liter, a 650 is lighter, capable of much more and it's easy. I had the option of buying the 1000cc but I decided against it and now I AM SO fucking glad.

But that's me. I suggest riding the fuck out of the 300, hit the top speed, lean in corners, basically get most of the jumpiness out of your system.

Then test ride the bikes and see if you're up to it. I probably will upgrade in future but I don't need that much power in Philippines anyway.

  3. I had a 150cc scooter a few years ago, it was actually my first vehicle

I didn't know shit about bikes at the time either, I just knew I had to get to work somehow lol. The idiot that sold it to me said "only use your front brake. If you use the rear brake, you will lock it up and fall off"

A few months later, some idiot cuts in front of me and slams on the brakes, I slam on only my front brake, lock it up and go over.

Honestly there's no reason I would need a literbike, but I seem to be stuck in the MUH TRACK-READY RACE BIKE mentality. If I can ever get past that I'll probably just get a Z650 or FZ-07. As much as I love the sport bikes, I don't love the cost of replacing the damn bodywork.

I almost went for the z650 when I got my Ninja. I'm kinda glad I didn't go for it, the Ninja is plenty quick enough and they say it's great for a first sport bike. it was not expensive and it's very quick around corners. It does suck having to shift four times every time you hit a stop light though.

The z650 would've been cool too, but due to the fact that I've already crashed the thing I'm glad I went with the less expensive option

See you already made the smart decision. I only crashed my rouser one time on a mountain dirt road, and it was totally excusable, but haven't damaged it, the cost of fixing the versys is higher, the cost adds up. Maintaining the bike ain't cheap. And crashes to happen, I will a picture of my bike when I go to dealership, they're fixing it. I will show you the amount of freaking crash protection I have.

Trust me, the liter mentality ain't worth it. I can safely safe I can utilize 90%-95% of my bike power. I do love speed, but fuck me if I get crashed while riding hard, I want to live, my life is awesome, I don't want to ruin it :D

my 750 has a 120 top speed. 95 i was showing 6 on the tach

you are ok if you can pull 75 on the highway without redlining

    top speeds are meaningless.

    its the acceleration that counts.

crazy the difference between sport bikes and cruisers

my rat pushes 750, 115 on the dash but tops out around 120

looked at a gsxr 600 a few weeks back, 150 on the dash, top speed with a tune-up 170 maybe

my bike has 150 more cc but only 2/3 of the speed

600 sport bikes are crazy to ride, with a literbike you get a sense of the power instantly at take off but on an r6 it really doesnt get crazy until high revs, its easy to get a false sense of security on a 600. this isnt to say that liter bikes are safer or easier, but rather that many people underestimate supersports.

Thanks, gave it a quick rinse-off last night but ran out of daylight - still could use some detail love on the bare aluminum bits and hoses/wire looms.

I want to get a big nasty 2-stroke companion for my bike - holy shit, Honda is reviving the CR500 ( now direct injected ) about time the Japs do something interesting/new with their offroad line-up instead of selling the same old 90s crap with new graphics.

and maybe one of those turbo side-by-sides

Put them in a nice trailer ( outfit it with living quarters ) and go live at the dunes for a few months at a time.

But back to reality, I need to diagnose the low-RPM miss on my shadow and fix it ( the dual carbs are engineered in tight, they sucked to pull and replace last time ).
