IEDs have all sorts of different triggers, hence the IMPROVISED prefix - I know a squib attached to the terminals of a mobile phone vibrator's motor was a popular choice, then when the US started using cellular jammers they moved on to radio, then radio jammers forced them to use tripwires, pressure plates etc.
If you want to keep talking about this please start another thread

doesn't matter, vibration weighs nothing and the ied detonates, where a landmine would not

IEDs are for armies to poor to have proper land mines. If Iran wanted to, it could supply real mines.

Soleimani was the man behind a more deadly Improvised Explosive Devices that ran up the American casualty count beginning in 2003.
There are 6,989 names on the wall of the Global War on Terror Memorial at the National Infantry Museum. Soleimani’s work is responsible for more than 600 of those deaths, according to a 2018 U.S. Department of Defense study.
Another 1,600 soldiers who were maimed or injured from the devices.

Besides, one of those two articles was from a US soldier who actually raided Iraqi workshops manufacturing EFPs

How did they know the yanks wouldn't just not pass on the warning, Brits in Northern Ireland style?
I've been following a few guys trying to work out what got hit - they've been enhancementing through old videos of the base, and almost all of the targets appear to have been 'Shasta Shelters', a company that makes what are essentially large collapsible equipment sheds.
The type/size of shelters they were seem to indicate that they were for vehicles or heavy equipment, some wreckage photos showing diesel generators.
Given how quiet the US media has been on material losses, it's possible the US was storing things there that would upset their Iraqi 'hosts' and that the strike's real goal was to expose them.
Or it's possible the Iranians just picked a bunch of important-looking buildings on the US side of the base to prove how accurate their missiles are. Who knows at this point.

Didn't Regan's crew once have Iran delay the release of US hostages till just after his inauguration? Just to show to the rubes how quickly Raygun Ronnie got results.
