Back to the subject though I was probably closer to the spoiled kid with the alcoholic parents only they were my mom's parents. Even though my grandfather was physically abusive to some extent he was the type of person to throw gobs of money at his problems his major and main problem being me.
I probably got 400 or 500 a month in cash/worthless shit I thought I needed at the time. I always had cigarettes/weed/new clothes starting around 7th grade. I had friends who would work all weekend as farmhands and do grueling work on all their free time off from school so without fully realizing it at the time I to some limited extent appreciated the leisurely stroll I had through middle school and high school.

On topic: Giving your kid money to do dishes does NOT teach them the value of a dollar. Look at what kind of a spoiled brat you were with your 'value of a dollar' ideals and sliced television cords. What kind of a shit kid sabotages a television, or flooring?
I teach my son the value of a dollar by having him do stuff for my parents or sister. It's not right to pay anybody in your own household to clean things. Have them refinish furniture, or pay them to help you with installing your new tile. I bet your house is dirty as fuck too Bill Krozby, because now nobody is paying you to clean up. Take a picture of your kitchen sink and post it right now or you can just die.
Bill Krozby doesn't understand how a kid comes to expect bribes for doing next to nothing when you give to them as a motivator to do little housework bullshit that they should be doing as a matter of personal responsibility anyway.
When I tell my son to pick up after himself and he says no, then I pull out my belt and tell him one more time. There's no reward like that for being responsible for your own mess. I do tell him thank you and let him know that I appreciate his help. Sometimes, if he doesn't bitch and whine about it, maybe I'll get him an ice cream or some other goodie snack or cheap toy, but that reward is for doing what he's told without resistance. He's a very headstrong kid, but rewarding him with small things for cooperation does seem to work as long as he knows that his reward is for cooperation not for meeting his responsibilities. You have to make that distinction clear otherwise children will believe the latter. -

I know the difference between a spanking and a beating. I have never and would never beat my boys, but I will not spare them a spanking when they've gone too far. I let them slide on a lot, but some offences with a boy require a forceful response. You don't know our day to day lives, and you don't know what it's like to be an American and live in the south.
