Those are stray/abandoned animals and it doesn't cost me any money or resources other than my time. If you were fostering the kid or donating to an orphanage or some shit that'd be different and more understandable but your situation sounds more like you're enabling this kid's parents to be lazy and unsupportive. I know several single moms who work and feed/care for their kids without needing a handout from some other dude. -

Time is the most valuable resource we have. Buying a kid milk every now and then doesn't bother me one bit, other than the time it takes to go to a store. The fact that she doesn't seem to be as motivated as she should be is a major source of contention between us
