I had a feral I took care of for almost 4 years that lived entirely on my patio in a shelter I built for it during the winter. Bought the biggest and thickest styrofoam cooler I could, sawed a hole in one end, lined the inside walls with silver foil emergency blankets and stuffed it with straw. He would stay in there all day when it was really cold and I'd feed him 3 times a day every day but he still wouldn't let me touch him, would smell the back of my hand a bit if I eased towards him but he was too feral to warm up to me.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

I've seen some vids about the techniques used to calm them. Just associating your hand as a good thing, the hand that feeds. I'm sure you already know that though. -

Yeah, some cats you just can't get accustomed to people. I deal specifically with a lot of the ones at the shelter that are deemed to be more difficult and have no problem getting them to be cool but some "true" ferals just never get used to people. -

That makes sense but it still frustrates me. I feel like if given enough time and right conditions I could unferal any cat. I think I would just lay in a room with them with pleasant music, doing nothing to startle them except putting food and treats on my body and forcing them to come to me to eat it off of me, and if I had to do that for a few weeks or months then so be it. I wish someone would challenge me to be able to do it to a cat but I'd want a hearty reward if I were to invest the time and effort into fixing one lone cat. -

That's a very nice thing you did. I'm sure even if he didn't warm up to you he was still very appreciative, just didn't know how to show it.
Makes me sad to think of what Unwyred would have done to that poor kitty -

I exploded a possum one time (ugliest fucking creatures on the planet, they're like a fallout sized hairy rat thing but the hair is white pubes from 80 year olds. Gross. I exploded one with my 30 cal rifle 150 or 180gr one time, can't remember, and it was pregnant I guess and I saw how I accidentally gave about 4 or 5 abortions cause I gut shotted it like always and the whole damn stomach was blown open like a tauntaun and I about threw up moving it to the burn barrel.

No I just have two. Have debated a third but these two are brothers and it's just been them for 5 years so might be weird. 3 is also borderline "crazy cat person" territory but 2 is perfect because they aren't lonely and it's not much different than having one. -
