Menthol cigarettes are the fucking worst. Cigarettes are bad enough, but anybody who smokes menthol cigarettes is a total fucking meat flap. -

IIRC menthol actually considerably upregulates nicotinic receptors. -
2017-01-15 at 7:07 AM UTCAww, sweet, dhgate is giving out $3-$25 credit per day until the 17th. Won $8 today. Spin the wheel: http://www.dhgate.com/activities/promotion/annual-review.html
They also regularly have coupons that can let you save $10 or so. Just need to wait for that bong to get back in stock. -

does that mean i can use menthol cough drops and vaporub as a cognitive enhancer??????/ -
2017-01-15 at 8:49 AM UTCIt's possible, but vaporizing a solution with menthol, which you can guy crystals of, would be the most efficient method.

2017-01-15 at 8:53 AM UTCthat sounds awful
i bet it would be more pleasant sucking on x quantity of ricola every day
i've also read that menthol potentiates the nicotine but i don't know if its due to receptor upregulation. too lazy to google right now.
and what does increased nicotinic receptor expression translate to? enhanced acetylcholine function? what benefits would this theoretically have?
if this actually makes sense it'll be a new reddit thing to add coughdrop bundies to their stacks
menthol has other pharmacological and probably minor properties like enhancing GABAA currents as a positve allosteric modulator

Prolonged cigarette smoking is associated with an increase in nACh receptor density throughout the brain (Picciotto and Kenny, 2013). This process of receptor “up-regulation” is likely to play an important role in the physiological underpinnings of nicotine addiction.
so menthol upregulates the same way nicotine does, through desensitization and rebound effect. from what i can tell menthol inhibits nicotinic signaling so it actually doesn't potentiate the effects, but instead causes long term changes in the receptor which contribute to addiction. does chronic nicotine administration benefit people? my common sense would say no, but who knows, maybe people who vape pure nicotine constantly are slightly mentally sharper. another interesting thing to consider is that if you use enough menthol to upregulate your nicotine receptors, you could get possibly end up habituating menthol the same way people habituate nicotine. -
