Walls have worked pretty well throughout history in keeping people out, Castles were a thing for a reason. If you have a wall you can focus your manpower were needed, obviously having border control along every point of the border would long term be vastly more expensive than 6 billion for a wall...which btw is LESS THAN 1 WEEK of Welfare payments.

The only one that was a massive ass border wall spanning thousands of miles intended to keep people out, wasn't really effective at keeping those people out.

    Guess which wall that was.

I'm sure you are referring to the Great wall of China.

That wasn't the only border wall btw..and again, a leaking faucet is better than a burst pipe.

Keeping out an invading army/force is quite a bit different than keeping out poor mothers with their whining children who are looking to make $5hr picking tomatoes.

Example of an effective wall: Berlin wall.

Example of an effective wall: Berlin wall.

None of them have been effective due to the nature of a wall.

The point of a wall is to be enough of an obstruction to cross that whoever is defending it has a significant advantage at stopping them from crossing it. By itself a wall is defeated by a ladder, or a rope, or by a strong grip, it's just marginally more difficult than walking past it.

For a castle, a wall is extremely effective at keeping out anyone unauthorized. But for a walled city, it might be effective at keeping out armies but it won't keep out infiltrators because the city still needs to allow travel in order to enable trade and commerce and... Keep functioning. For a country, a wall becomes a joke.

That's why border walls that span thousands of miles are stupid as actual barriers. Even the Great wall of China was only somewhat useful because the walkway on top gave a great advantage in terms of moving troops along the border quickly rather than dealing with the hilly, unsure terrain below. But raiders would penetrate it all the time.

I don't think the "coyotes" who get illegal immigrants across are going to let a stupid fence stop them.

I guarantee some mexis with angle grinders are gonna start cutting off the iron bars and stealing them, leaving huge holes in the fences. And the American taxpayer will have to foot the repair bill of course.

When you go home to Pakistan what do you sit behind to keep the poor people out?

I think the "a leaking faucet vs a burst pipe" thing isn't sinking in...

Agreed, but it wont just be a wall, it will be a wall and border patrol. I've not read anywhere that once the wall has been built the border patrol will be disbanded...The berlin wall was effective as it was well defended, the great wall of china not so much.

Build a wall on the southern border then effectively defend it = a successful endeavor.

no fuckin shit? Now that's a stat with shock value.
  12. yup...think of all the illegals who get welfare of some description...and then their brats getting it too...and generations of them.

The wall pays for itself in no time if you keep just a fraction of them out.

    Class based geographic segregation.

    I.e. I live in a nice neighborhood.

All prisons should have their walls removed, because walls don't work. If you remove the barriers, that will make sure they don't get out.

Dad, your insight has reversed my opinion on the wall. You're the best teacher I never had. 👍❤

But this is different because they're in a cage, not just behind a wall. Right? Someone plz make me understand the analogy here...

you'd have to do a cost-savings breakdown comparing the cost of the wall against the savings made in border enforcement to be able to say whether it's a good investment, but given the way US funding bills work border enforcement will never, ever request less funding so it automatically fails there.

it's impossible to seriously argue that a wall wouldn't make a significant difference to illegal immigration, but the cost vs benefit is questionable. the retarded 'smart wall' rhetoric even moreso

Excellent point aldra... that's why my initial opinion was negative on the wall... the cost versus benefit ratio I didn't think would be favorable... but Jig made a good point that even if one life is saved of an American it could be worth it....
